For a water service replacement, we trench from the house to the city meter (usually located in the front yard). This is normally a very speedy process, not lasting more than a few hours. WE always make sure to replace the entire line and not to leave any old plumbing under ground.
Repairs can sometimes be done, if the line for instance has sheered off at the foundation. Generally speaking however; we try to always replace the entire line (even newer pipe can become brittle underground, causing it to break again after a repair has been made).
